The petrol forecourt represents a changing landscape for both visitors and the people that work in them. As the UK’s fifth largest petrol forecourt retailer, Penny Petroleum understands that reflecting and finding new ways to deliver a better service to clients often emanates from a better understanding of colleagues, their motivations, and their actions. In short, giving colleagues the platform to express their views is helping the business develop a brighter future for everyone!
As a result of feedback, 2023 saw Penny increase their hourly rate to the Real Living Wage set by the Living Wage Foundation, the introduction of the PennyWise platform with thousands of money-saving options and a partnership with GroceryAid to provide colleagues with practical, financial, and emotional support 24/7, 365 days per year.
And now, as the result of a full review of benefits, 2024 will see Penny on the Move again. This time with the announcement of enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption and fertility leave policies with the objective of providing more support to those who are becoming parents, or who are seeking ways to become parents.
We are delighted to announce that qualifying colleagues will receive enhanced Maternity Pay for 26 weeks, Paternity Pay will also be enhanced and lengthened to 3 weeks for qualifying colleagues. In addition, colleagues who are going through the adoption or fertility process will be entitled to paid time off for pre-placement or implantation appointments as well as other adjustments to support them on their journey to starting a family.
Penny on the Move have also introduced a cash health plan with Westfield Health – this is a low-level health insurance plan where colleagues pay a small premium and get money back for medical and dental expenses.
Commented Tim Coid, Senior Human Resources Business Partner at Penny on the Move “As a family business we know the importance of keeping family at the heart of everything we do and supporting colleagues to grow their own family is important to us, as is removing some of the financial pressures that this may cause. We are committed to being tough to rival as one of the highest-rewarding petrol forecourt retailers and we are incredibly proud of every single member of our team.”
And all this from a business that’s still also moving forward with its plan to employ over 1000 colleagues, own over 100 filling stations, hotels, individual car wash sites, a bakery and a farm shop, expand its Food2Go section and have a turnover in excess of £500 million!
From humble beginnings in Hedgeley, Northumberland in 1994, the company is still owned by the Penny family, led by David Penny and is very definitely going places. If you’d like to be part of our journey to ‘keep it in the family’ then get in touch today.
